A common beauty question we get asked at Mineral is how to combat dehydrated skin when flying and what products do we suggest taking for travel.
Dehydration can occur on any skin type – from oily, sensitive, normal, combination, acne and dry. The simple explanation is that when we have superficial water loss from the surface skin cells it results in a dehydrated skin condition. This can result in the skin looking ‘old’ – some faint fine lines appearing as very superficial wrinkles, it can often make wrinkles look worse than they actually are and make your skin feel rough to touch, more oily, prone to blackheads, and your skin will often look very dull.
This dehydration of the skin is common when flying as you are stuck in an artificial air-conditioned environment for prolonged periods. It can also happen if you spend long hours at work or have air-conditioning on at home all the time.
Prior to your flight you can make sure you exfoliate and hydrate the skin with serum, face cream and even a hydrating masque to make sure you set your skin up to handle the flight.
My personal product fav’s to stay looking fresh, groomed and hydrated:
Before the flight, apply tinted moisturiser and again mid flight after using the shammy and eye cream – the Aveda Inner Light Tinted Moisturiser is clinically proven to work help prevent surface hydration – so you not only even out your complexion its actually doing good too!
Lip Saver – re apply as often as needed; and an Aveda sheer lipstick for those that want to step off the plane looking radiant.
Aveda Shammy Cloth in a ziplock bag – ready to refresh the skin mid flight
Green Science Eye Cream for the mid flight refresh
Aveda Hand Relief Cream – apply throughout the flight
Dry Shampoo to refresh your hair style, uplift oily roots and smells so fresh.
Aveda Blue Oil for tension relief oil on any muscles that ache while flying and can be applied to the lower legs to help with circulation, this product also doubles as a refreshing aroma just to make you smell good.
Checked in luggage under the plane I always have Suncare Hair and Body wash (2-in-1 product – that also detoxes salt and chlorine from hair and body), Colour Conserve Strengthening Hair Treatment to use as my conditioner, Stress fix body lotion (great on sunburn too of your going to a tropical getaway) and Foot relief cream to ease the dryness post flight, Green Science Cleanser and Botanical Kinetics Soft Cream to restore my face.

LUXE tip: If you can make the time for a professional facial pre and post flight we can always work our magic at Mineral to restore your skin to a more balanced state and relieve the tension of those sore muscles from flying.
